(#43) 5 Centimeters Per Second (2007) - [7/10]

Updated: Apr 8, 2019

Sample Premise.

Told in three interconnected segments, we follow a young man named Takaki through his life as cruel winters, cold technology, and finally, adult obligations and responsibility converge to test the delicate petals of love.

How would I describe this film in one word?

Sample word.

Note This is one of the 2 Makato Shinkai films I watched recently and I'll be reviewing other one later.

Review 5 Centimeters Per Second is a melodrama that seeks convey that reality can be harshly heart-breaking and people change with time. Yeah, it’s a pretty straightforward plot, but that’s something you got to infer from the style of presentation which essentially divides the film into three confusing episodes (acts).

This film is more likely to impress you with its breathtaking animation than the story or its characters, which is why it’s also referred to as "5 Wallpapers Per Second'. Nevertheless, it does serve as a bitter life lesson for everyone accepting their precious bonds to stay the way it is forever. Fans of Your Name’s animation (directed by the same guy), looking for similar eye-candy should definitely give this a shot. My personal rating would be… RATING: 7/10

Director: Makoto Shinkai Rated: TV-PG Runtime: 1 hr 3 min Genre: Animation, Drama, Romance Starring: Kenji Mizuhashi, Yoshimi Kondou, Satomi Hanamura
