How would I describe this show in one word?
Sample word.
Note
To be honest, I would’ve skipped this show if I didn’t know Gainax was behind it, cause the impact left by Neon Genesis Evangelion still remains in me.
Review Gurren Lagann might seem like your typical mecha/sci-fi anime but it’s much more than that. The narrative of the first half of the show tricks the audience into believing it’s cliché and unoriginal, and for that reason I was pretty bored initially cause I felt like I had a vague idea of where this was going until it took an astonishing turn no one foresaw. Apart from that, the animation of the show felt very "non-anime", somewhere in the middle of anime and cartoon, which seemed dull until the fight scenes started pouring in and goodness me, the animation was so juicy and appealing, you could boldly compare its animation to tie likes of One Punch Man and My Hero Academia. One of the main focus of this anime - is humanity’s strength and though it’s a common theme, Gurren Lagand’s portayal of it is simply beautiful enough to make you proud of your human identity. However, there’s a ton of fan service which might get on your nerve but damn, I could go for days admiring Yoko.
To conclude, for all its worth, Gurren Lagann is a piece of art and if you're patient enough to let the progress and give it a chance, I could assure you that you'll enjoy it but if mecha ain’t really your cup of tea, keep it aside for later. I'd give it…
