(#73) Bareilly Ki Barfi (2017) - [7.75/10]

Updated: Jun 7, 2019

A girl falls in love with a book and its author and seeks to find him.

After reading a book that changes her life, Bitti is intent on meeting the author. Her quest takes her to a publisher, Chirag, who leads her to believe that the writer is Pritam Vidrohi.

How would I describe this film in one word?

Generic.

Note

Yes. It's another Hindi film and that too another Rajkummar Rao film. And yes, that's why I chose to watch it as well. What? I can't be a fan of Rajkummar but it's okay to be a fan of Salman? Yeak. Raj is nice okay.

Review

Eventhough I watched this movie to see Rajkummar Rao and be mesmerized by his acting as I do in his other films; one, he didn't make his appearance till the second act of the film, two, he didn't have a prevalent role, three, his acting wasn't a stand-out performance like his other films. It wasn't a bad performance, it was actually nice for the first 10 minutes or so of his screen time, then it just became... normal? See, not bad. Just generic I guess. But the main star here isn't Rajkummar Rao, but Ayushmann Khurrana. I was surprised by his acting, it was pretty good. And credit where it's due, Kriti Sanon justified her role here as more than just a pretty face. Her character was a tomboyish one, and she could've very easily overdone it, but she didn't. But overall, there was nothing really extraordinary about any three of their acting. As for the story, it's about a girl who falls in love with the a book and it's characters and sets on a quest to find its author who she falls in love with. It's not a very well structured story and it seems pretty illogical at times but it is an unconventional one and pretty enjoyable one too. It isn't of the feel-good category either. It's just a fun, one-time watch with the family. No more to it.

Gotta say, at least it didn't give us to much to get mad about by giving us an annoying ending. No. It ended in a pretty jovial way where everyone's a winner. Playing it safe. Cool.
