Debbie Ocean, just released on parole, dives right back into the world of crime with a team to pull off a heist.

How would I describe this film in one word?
Familiar.
Note When I first heard of this film, I was very skeptical of it. A lot of other people too I'm sure from the trailer release. I, along with many others, were wondering, "Why"? That question didn't develop from a sexist or patriarchal intention, but rather in curiosity of why they would want a spin-off of a highly successful trilogy when they could just make an original female-led heist film. Cause when it's a spin-off, there is bound to be critical comparisons to the original three films as you would find down below. However, they didn't let us down too badly. They made quite an enjoyable film from a star-studded cast even if it didn't live up to the original.
Review
Familiar. The story of Ocean's 8 was very familiar to what we saw in Ocean's 11. There's one friend that Ocean has, they gather the team and there's a secondary reason for Ocean's heist which is related to the boyfriend. The structure is quite similar, lacking in originality. It isn't a carbon-copy though. There's plenty to this film that there is to admire. It was still a fun and enjoyable heist film. But it never, in any way came close to matching the thrill and suspense that the original Ocean's provided us with. Not only did the thrill not match Ocean's 11, there wasn't much of one to begin with. This seemed like almost the perfect heist where nothing went wrong and everything went right. Very odd. Not only do they spice things up in the original Ocean's, but also in movies in general. Something needs to go wrong in order to generate that thrill. And there wasn't much of one. That's a very unconventional way to approach a thriller heist genre, and now seeing this movie, one would affirm why it's unconventional and undesirable. This criticism may sound like I hated the film but to be honest, I enjoyed it... all the while knowing that technically it wasn't very good from the story's perspective. Regarding the other departments, there was nothing lacking in particular, though nothing noteworthy either.
